Immigrants

ImmigrantsClutching passport in hand and large suitcase in tow,
A career that awaits and a future that glows,
They take flight in great comfort to a future awaits,
To begin a new life in a land they’ve embraced.

Empty-handed and shivering from cold and despair,
Leaving good life behind, fleeing war, mortal fear,
Seeking refuge and shelter wherever they can,
From the bombs and the smoke and the death and the rain.

Two good people are brothers who travel with hope,
To improve life and prospects in a new world beyond,
Different pasts, different reasons, but common their fight,
Step away from the darkness and into the light.

New Dawn

Good morning,
Rise to a new dawn,
Of decency and hope,
And healthier choices,
For us to realize.

Open your eyes and smile,
At a future that became brighter overnight,
Opportunities that feel closer,
And the atmosphere that cleared up,
By so much.

Stretch your arms,
Up toward the ceiling,
That became easier to breach,
Through a collective effort,
Which is still being realized.

Open your front door,
The sight, the smells, are the same, yet different,
Yesterday we rejoiced,
And today we shall have,
A good day.
